Introducing Bookclub! Our monthly book selection will be centered around a cooking or food theme, but in most cases will be a novel or a short story collection. We’ll have two meetings at the end of each month, please pick the one that is most convenient for you! This is a free event (we will have copies of each book in stock at the shop, but you don’t have to buy the book from us), but please register for the time you would like to attend so we have an accurate number. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
September’s Bookclub selection is Sourdough by Robin Sloan. Lois Clary, a software engineer at a San Francisco robotics company, codes all day and collapses at night. When her favorite sandwich shop closes up, the owners leave her with the starter for their mouthwatering sourdough bread.
Lois becomes the unlikely hero tasked to care for it, bake with it and keep this needy colony of microorganisms alive. Soon she is baking loaves daily and taking them to the farmer’s market, where an exclusive close-knit club runs the show.
When Lois discovers another, more secret market, aiming to fuse food and technology, a whole other world opens up. But who are these people, exactly?
We will be serving sourdough bread with an assortment of spreads and oils as our snack for this meeting! For the afternoon meeting, we will have coffee, tea, and lemonade for refreshments. We will be serving wine for the evening meeting. All refreshments are complimentary.
